Emerald Field Gemology in Madagascar

With the influence of auction houses on the colored gemstone industry, origin determination of gemstones such as emeralds, rubies or sapphires has become a major concern for the industry (consumers, dealers and gem labs alike). In order to be able to provide origin determination services, gem labs need to acquire reference samples from all the known deposits and learn more about them. For that reason, the “Bahrain Institute for pearls and Gemstones (DANAT)”, a new gem lab established in Bahrain, contracted Vincent Pardieu to visit emerald producing areas around the world in order to build their reference collection. One of the first area he visited on that purpose was the emerald producing area near Mananjary in Madagascar. The presentation by Vincent Pardieu will show the benefits labs can get from field expeditions and present the Mananjary emerald deposit.
About Vincent Pardieu:
Vincent Pardieu is since Jan 2017 a Consultant Field Gemologist at “VP Consulting SPC”.
From 2002 to 2017 he was worked first as Director for the AIGS Lab in Bangkok, as gemologist at the Gübelin Gem Lab in Switzerland and finally he worked 8 years as Senior Manager, Field Gemology at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) laboratory in Bangkok building a reference collection that currently has no equal in any other gemological laboratory.
With a career thus far that has seen him lead 121 successful field expeditions to colored stones mining areas around the world, he is Internationally renowned for his dedication to all things related to gemology and conservation, he has published prolifically on all aspects of the subject in a host of different hard as well as web based publications, the main ones of which can be found on “ResearchGate” at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Vincent_Pardieu/publications?pubType=article
